Fish Refuges in Leazes Park

A couple of members of the angling club in Leazes Park were planting some more reeds in the lake when I was in the park last week and talked to me about the new fish refuges which have been constructed in the lake. Not for birds to nest on, but for the fish to go into and under.

Graffiti off Westgate Hill

Last week I spotted some interesting graffiti on a door in one of the lanes off Westgate Hill.

Leazes Park Lake with The Royal Victoria Infirmary in the background

Leazes Park Lake with The Royal Victoria Infirmary in the background. Ice usually forms on the lake during a cold spell, and these are some kind of gull standing around on it.

Ice on Leazes Park Lake

Here is where the Lort Burn drains out of Leazes Park Lake, the flowing water running out under the ice, during a recent cold snap.

Looking across the lake towards the island, with birds standing on the ice.
